Why not an MA7200 or MA7900?

The general consensus has been that the 7000 sounds better than either of those, more of the traditional warmish Mac sound. I also really love the look of the 7000-8000 models.

Well, sometime all great plans come apart.
After a couple consecutive days of rain, my roof began to leak. Other than the distinct inconvenience and difficult it caused, my first thought was that I was covered, since the company that put on a new roof for me ten years ago gave me a written guarantee that they would replace the roof if it failed to last a minimum of fifteen years. That was, in the end, why I chose them at the time. Well, next I find out that the company has gone out of business and I'm stuck for the full expense of a new roof. I've had three people out today to give me bids, and suffice to say it will not be cheap, and a whole lot more than an MA7000, even new, or for that matter, about the price of a new MA8000. This came right on the heels of being notified of a very significant sum my fiance and I have to pay, upfront, thanks to Obamacare, for surgery she badly needs asap. My audio plans are necessarily going to have to be shelved for a while. Thanks to everyone for all of their input and assistance. I'll be back as finances allow. John |

John: I'm sorry to hear of your recent unfortunate events. Obviously you need to take care of what matters most, your home and loved ones.
We look forward to when you can once again enjoy the fruits of this hobby. Take good care.

Having owned the MA6850 (from 1998), MA6900, MA2275 and MA6600, my ears prefer the MA6850, followed by the MA6600. However, the MA6900 and MA2275 never "worked" for me and I tried three different speakers with each. Just waiting on a new face-plate (only been a year +, thus far) to get the MA6850 back into the system. However, my understanding is McIntosh has put in a 2nd glass face-plate machine as they were falling behind on both new and replacement glass. Hopefully, won't be that much longer.

Controls and functionality are conventional in that they do not run on computer controlled firmware OS.

^ This, which also means the MA7000 has no built in DAC.
