Default 802 D3s overkill for HT ?

Ive listened to the 802 D3s at my dealer think they sound great with 2 channel audio. However I don't do much 2 channel listening at home, I mostly enjoy HT use for watching movies, or playing video games.

Are the 802s sort of overkill for movies where you really aren't doing critical listening to super well recorded audio ?

Im sort of drawn to the 802s cause I figure that a speakers that plays music well should have an easy time with HT use, and they may make me more of a 2 channel listener once I have them.

Id appreciate your input and opinions.

You could do what I did. Though I wanted something for 2 channel I went for 804 D2's. Now that I have 802's, the 804's are my surrounds.

So you could start smaller and work up.

In my opinion yes they are especially if you have high quality subs. Of course if you listened to a decent amount of 2 channel content I would change my opinion.

Everyone has their own threshold for "overkill". It's up to your wallet and room size.

I sold my pair of 802D to a person who uses them as his front mains in his HT system.
He does not think they are overkill.

Similarly, I have 3 802D3s and 2 804D3s for multichannel. It is not overkill but, then again, I do not use them for HT, only music.
