I used to be a cable skeptic. I could easily hear a difference between copper wireworld IC cables and silver plated. The silver seemed to bring out the high frequencies , the music sounds brighter as if the treble was turned up. Balanced cables give me a blacker background as well vs RCA cables. I am not sure about power cords though because the cables bringing power to my stereo are standard in-wall wire and the internals of the components are super expensive either so I am not sure why having 2-3 feet of expensive power cord in-between would make a significant difference. I have a ppp power conditioner, I could not hear any difference when I added this vs going direct to the wall but I keep it as a serge protector. I did hear a difference when my amps. were plugged into a Panamax serge protector , the bass was diminished when plugged into it so I non longer use that in my stereo. There are others here who swear they can hear differences and I have no problem with it. This is a hobby so what ever makes you feel good and gives you pleasure... Go For It

After years of experimenting and switching back and forth, I have decided that I like the silver covered cable the best.

Far better highs, tighter bass, glorious mid-range. Costs a bit more but worth every penny.

And I can hear the difference.

Nothing but the best for me and my audio systems.

So we have a pretty good understanding of Newtonian level facts but are living in a relativistic universe that some can experience but don't yet completely understand...

To me, this is the most important line in not only the thread but the entire objective vs subjective wars that are fought on audio sites.

So many factor go into this. I remember reading an article by XLO's founder and he said that most people think differences can only be heard on uber high end systems. He claimed that he found that the inverse to be true. ?????

In my system the largest change comes from power cables, followed by IC's and finally speaker cables. As you see from my signature power and conditioning is by Shunyata while the remainder is Tara Labs. That said I've been considering trying some Shunyata IC's and speaker cables in the near future.

Whenever I read that changes are more easily heard on "uber high end systems" I think back on my old components and how I heard cable differences in all the iterations of my music system, from vintage Pioneer and JBL's to the Levinson and Vienna Acoustics I presently enjoy. I do think that my current electronics allow me to be pickier, due to them being less of a limiting factor in performance.

I'm not sure I've ever said to myself, at any point while auditioning a variety of cables, "these two cables sound the same."

During auditions I've done, I have thought to myself that certain cables are vastly overrated, although they had been raved about or highly touted.

I feel the opposite way...the more I've upgraded my system components (especially speakers), the more easily discernible changes in vibration control and cables have become. Ymmv of course.

I had transparent super ic's for quite a while because I tried some others and didn't hear much if any difference. After hearing ic comparisons with my Alexia's in place, I upgraded.
