They have a 15" bass driver and a horn tweeter. They are very efficient and will work with as little as 1-2 wpc. I think they sound clear, crisp, full and have tons of bass. They sorta remind me of live music, something you'd hear at a concert. They are so clear and dynamic that I had to be careful playing them because I'd get lost in the music and not even realize how loud I was cranking them. Awesome for the money.

Thanks, Joe. I'm always thinking 'PA system' when I think of 'horn tweeter'. I'm reminded of my early days as a teen adding these 'el cheapo' horn tweeters to some old Advents. I don't know what I was thinking then, but that was some horrid sounding stuff - especially when coupled with the U-shaped equalizer settings! Yikes!
I really must make an effort to hear them. Thank you again.

You are welcome. They can be a little forward and maybe a little in your face but I could/should have stopped there and spent the rest on a sweet dac and tons of music.
OMG! I remember seeing equalizer settings like that. Holy cow! What the heck were my friends thinking? Last edited by joeinid; 07-24-2012 at 03:28 AM. |

Greg,
I have no doubt the MC275 will sound awesome on the Cornwall III"s. I didn't push it because I thought you were concerned about tube heat and maintenance. I even love my modded 8 wpc ASL wave amps on my Cornwalls. Those speakers will work with ANYTHING and sound great. That's the beauty of them. Please keep us posted. |

I was hoping more MC501, MC452, MC352, MC302 and MC252 Recommendations. My interest is peaked for those Modwright recommendations, still I would like to stay brand pure.. but not "Wed" to the notion. Bill |

Greg,
One more data point. I don't know if I mentioned it here but definitely in other threads. When I had my Conrad Johnson ET-5 (which is a small step below my GAT pre), I had it hooked to my MC601's. They fact I still talk about it now is testament to how much I enjoyed it and sadly did not appreciate what I had. It was truely a wonderful combination. A Mcintosh tube pre and the 601's are a killer combo. Any Mcintosh will be superb on my precious Cornwalls. |
