I've had several friends go there; they loved it - but it was before the recent instability/protests, etc.
Don't know how it is now, but it is certainly a place I would love to visit one day.

It is indeed a very big and crowded city, but if you're a tourist, staying just a couple of days, you'll likely go to a quite compact area of the city.
Just the Hagia Sophia/Blue Mosque area has a dozen attractions by itself. If you want to stay around there, there's the Four Seasons nearby  The protests were on the other side of town, at the end of the main commercial drag, Istiklal. I don't think you'll have problems going there, but just to be on the safe side, don't pick a hotel in that area. alexandre

We were there last fall....
Blue Mosque Saint (Hagia) Sofia Museum / church Grand Bazaar Topkapi Palace the Sultan's estate If you can find time to travel down to Ephesus to see the lost city, which is now being dug up and put back together piece by piece, it is well worth the visit.... A good tour guide worked out well for us... Have fun...

Agree with Jim's reccomendations - all good and must dos. Also, visit the Roman sisterns. Great food in Istanbul as well. Let me know if you need any reccomendations.
The 4 Seasons Hotel is considered one of the best hotels in the world. A couple more points, there is an outstanding stereo store in Istanbul. Can't recall the name but it has received a lot of coverage. Lastly, if you have the time to visit Kusadasi and Ephesus, I would highly recommend it - specially if you are a history buff. Enjoy!
