OMG

DON'T chew ice.

You'll be sorry when you break a tooth or restoration and chalk up a BIG dental bill.

I make my giant bourbon ice cubes this way - pain but it works great.
This is true.

You MUST get the dissolved gases out of the water in addition to the disolved solids to have clear ice.

I tell my patients, when you eat popcorn, chew softly.

Unpopped kernels are dangerous.

Update on portable ice maker, if any interest.

Seems that clear ice is achieved by technique, not filtered water. System need to have flowing water to freeze clearly. Or a way to freeze slowly, from bottom to top.
I achieved it two ways.

One is by, Alchemy Bar Goods, Clear Ice Ball Maker. 2.3" round clear ice balls. Uses a mold, method.

Second is a portable ice maker that make clear ice cubes. Luma Comfort IM200SS Portable Clear Ice Maker, $199 from Amazon. Cool thing here, no plumbing..no drain or fill line. You add water..Evian ice cubes...as the ice melts, it recirculates the water back into fresh ice. Once ice bend is full, machine stops. So far, very cool.

It will make the coffee taste much better. Keep an eye on the filter with the included TDS meter and replace it when the meter lights up or the water will start to taste funny.
