Indeed. Here in the Bay Area, the main Hayward in the East Bay fault runs right through a line of hospitals, Hwy 13, and Cal Berkeley. It seems in California there is an odd coincidence of key infrastructures being built right on fault lines. IIRC, the Northridge quake was on such a fault line.

I live in Burbank and remember the Northridge quake all too well.

But I get why someone would look at them and think they're overpriced. They're dainty. That's probably the first thing I thought when I saw them and heard the price a few months ago.

Given the choice between 2 identical stands, I'd probably choose the one with the attributes Ton Trager employees as long as the price paid for those "better" stands seemed commensurate with the added cost of those attributes.

In any case, my hesitation with them is the fear the speakers could could get bumped off small columns that look barely the size of a dime. Otherwise, I think they're attractive with their diminutive appearance and finish.
I’ve played the “cable game” extensively for 30 years. I know which cables make a difference and to what extent. Let’s just say the cables are not high on my priority list of “upgrades” anymore but I’m not exactly using a lamp cord either.

If earthquakes are a concern then any stand mounted speaker is not the best choice and Tontrager especially. Of course living on the west coast expecting a “big one” wouldn’t stop me from from doing it as surely there would be other more pressing concerns than a pair of speakers to begin with.
Life is too short to worry about “what if scenarios” and has a way of throwing curve balls that eclipse all other small concerns such as a pair of speakers.

The Tontrager synergy is very strong with Harberh but it doesn’t change the fundamental strengths of Harbeth speakers. The speaker placement in the room, room/speaker interaction and the rest of system synergy takes precedence but the stands put a finishing touch and bring about a more relaxed, organic presentation and other elusive qualities that to my ears seem to be missing with metal stands. It is a more meaningful improvement than cable swaps. I’ll just leave it here.

Living on the West Coast isn't going to prevent me from owning a pair of stand mounted speakers if I prefer their sound over the others I've tried and if the 'big one' does hit in my lifetime, my speakers would be the least of my worries. My concern is for the smaller quakes that happen every couple of years that do a slight amount of damage, like shaking speakers off of stands.

Museum wax is a necessity around here.

Herb Reichert in Stereophile review of the P3ESR Anniversary.

"I had a memorable experience of this sort of real presence with the P3ESR 40th Anniversarys sitting 30" out from my front wall on TonTräger Audio's Reference P3s: light wooden stands made in Germany and costing $1485/pair (footnote 3). It was a delight-filled musical-aesthetic moment.
"The bright-olivewood Harbeths looked exceedingly delicate on the black stems of the slender TonTrägers. The Cary SLI-100 integrated amp drove the P3ESRs with nuance and finesse.

With Pepe Romero playing Bajando de la Meseta and other works for solo guitar by Joaqu°n Rodrigo (LP, Philips 9500 915), everything was perfect: the poetic Rodrigo compositions; the size, weight, resonance, and tone of Romero's guitar; his expressive but understated playing; and, especially, the transparent character of this Philips recording. This was as close to a real guitar as I have ever experienced in my little room. The TonTräger stands looked so good, and the music sounded so natural, that I wanted to lug my unpleasantly dense Sound Anchor stands out to the curb."
