Default Pair of F113 in a big room

I originally had my system in a room that was 15x14 and the F113's were as good as I could want, I was very happy. Now the room is 30x25 with openings off to the side and in the back. Now, you know the F113's are there and they still blend perfectly with the mains but need some help.

Ok now this could go easy or hard. Hard is always painful but fun in the end. Easy would be add a pair of F113.

Hard would be... Let the pair go to a happy home and get in touch with a local sub builder who has a nice product that should work out for my space. 4 should do the trick.

What if you add two more of them or step up to 2 Goths? Maybe sell them and upgrade but in the end would maybe cost more than adding 2 more F113's.

Or a custom built sub with a 18" drive to add to the F113... That would add the deepest of bass and move a lot of air which is what has changed in the larger room.
Personally that would be my choice since I have 2 custom built subs for a 23x31 room that is open as well in a basement.

IMOP you have so much more space and to that that it is open it needs a little more umph to get you back to what you were used to correct ?

Good luck and please keep us posted...

Exactly... I need multiple large drivers because there is a lot more air that needs to be moved.

Like I was saying, just getting 2 more subs that I know I can trust the quality and have lived with and loved for a few years, would work and be easy but may not be the best way to spend the money.

DIY is the best way to get what I need for the least amount of money. I can buy the drivers, the amp and the enclosure that has been proven to work. It would just take a little work and I do have the skill to pull it off. It will be less money but that doesn't count sacrificing my rare free time.

I am starting to think this time I should let a pro make the call. Those subs in the picture are a master/slave comb. I know exactly what I would like to do but this time I think I am going to ask the guy that develops and builds the subs for his advice, and listen.

Is there a reason for you not wanting to say " I'm looking at Seaton subs to replace my JL F113's" there reputation seems to speak well for Marks work.

no reason. It's a jl forum and I like there subs alot. I am looking into getting 2 submersive F2/slave combos. 8 15" drivers across the front would be quiet a presence. That probably is not going to give me the best results though, so I am going to ask Mark what he would do with my room.

as a final effort I got to looking into a pair of DIY 18" again just too ad what I have. I just cant find a finished product that I am happy with. I think I am afraid to put my subs up for sale because I already know what I am getting with the JL's. It seems like a good time to do though due to not too many on the used market.

Have you thought about a pair of JTR S2's? 4 - 18" drivers should do the trick as well and cost considerably less

all great ideas. The orbit shifter or S2 or DIY ultra 5400. In a room my size I am going to have to end up with 4. I am thinking 2 Gotham would have more output than 4 fathom but you can get better room coverage with 4 than 2. Aesthetically 2 more F113 would work but I have already purchased 2 of them new and know what kind of dent that leaves. I am thinking 2 S2 would out perform the submersive because of the larger drivers but they will cost 25% more in the end and not match my other speakers. With 4 of either subs they wont be at full capacity so I don't think one would outperform the other.

Krell MRS Master Reference Subwoofer and Thors hammer come with a hefty price tag. I would guess you are as good if not better with a Gotham.
