I read somewhere that Burmester included "upgraded" fuses as part of the 911 mk1 -> mk2 update package, so there might be something to this whole fuse thing, at least Burmester seems to think it's an important element. It is possible that these after market fuses are improving the sound further.

Personally, due to expectation bias, I would not be able to convince myself I was hearing a difference unless I was able to differentiate in blind testing. Blind testing is a PITA to do though especially with something like switching out fuses. Plus, why go through the effort if you are already convinced....

I guess I'll leave the fuse selection up to burmester unless I hear of positive ABX results... which I guess will be never

For $20-50 US, you would be crazy NOT to swap out the fuses. For less than 2/10 of 1% of the retail price of the 911 mk3 - go for it. If you do not want to spend as much get the AMR fuses for 50% of the price of the Supreme HiFi fuses. I guarantee you WILL notice an improvement

I want to change the fuses in my 099 and 077 but I am afraid to get in there. The 911 was easy.

One thing I did do was to orient them in the same way based on the logo and writing on the fuse barrel. At least they are pointing in the same direction so both channels see the same thing. Here is a review of the fuses.

StereoTimes --

The AMR fuses that Jeff @ Home Page sells are supposed the be better and less expensive.

Abbingdon Music Research - Products - Gold Fuse

I should have some to try in a week or two. Crazy, I know.
Thanks for that Joe, all very interesting. I'll follow your lead with the orientation, they should be with me in a day or so.

Colin,

Just keep an open mind and give them a couple of days to settle in. I've spent more money on tweaks and received no improvement. I am a believer now

Did you read the StereoTimes review I posted a link to above?

Wow... Burmester and TAD....

I guess since your first to pop the Burmester/TAD cherry there will be alot of interest in your impressions!

Ivan, time to open a TAD forum? I think you were also planning to pair the TAD R1's with twin 911's?

The 911/CR-1 combo is pretty much my long term goal! Congrats!

Thanks!

I've been obsessing for a while now and I don't think it could get any better. It will be a long wait.

Yes I did read the review, thank you. From that review it seems that if you keep the orientation the same with both fuses and hear an improvement, then the orientation is correct. If it sounds worse, then reverse them, sounds easy, we shall see!
Colin.

Update ......Update ......Update ......Update ......

I reversed the orientation of my fuses several times and BELIEVE these are in fact DIRECTIONAL. One way the sound seemed a little off and unfocused. The other way more natural, full and better. I have them with the little arrow on the barrel pointing towards the front wall and away from me when I am standing in front of the amp. I do not understand it but I sense a difference.
