Alberto.......You want some seriously delicious sound? Do yourself a huge favor and pick up a Musical Fidelity X-Can V8P headphone amplifiers. Holy mackerel, they will light up your Sennheiser HD580 Jubilee's with a sensuous richness like you have not experienced from them before. My HD600's have never sounded so good. I don't want to take them off my head. The X-Can V8P is a sweet, delicious sounding headphone amp. Trust me on this, and grab one. You will not be disappointed.

I trust you Dan, but I am already waaaaay busy figuring out my next setup, and my Bottlehead SET headphone rig is my reference for deliciousness and safe harbor these days. The Bottlehead seems to be voiced just for my HD580 Jubilee. Look, even Mr Bottlehead's wife agrees:

Besides, there's something special about an amp I built myself - and I dig the wood:

Alberto.......Very cool. Looks like you're good to go.

This photo flashed me back to San Francisco 40 years ago. It was my Koss Pro4AA's and Beverly (a brunette) laying naked on my couch with nothing on but the headphones. What a surprise that was. Thanks for the flashback.

Dan, Does Marlene read AA? If she does, you must have a remarkable relationship!

Dan....congrats, I don't know how I missed this thread. This is good to know, as I'm pretty sure this is the headphone amp recommended to me by my local dealer some time ago. Reasonably priced, and its fit and finish is high quality, as you say. I did not audition the unit I looked at-the unit was not hooked up.

Julian.......I bought Marlene an iMac so she can surf QVC and HSN. That's about the extent of her online activities, and best of all the iMac keeps her off my computer. She does not read Audio Aficionado, but she has heard the story of Beverly and the Koss Pro4AA headphones before. I wasn't a monk before I met her, and she wasn't Sister Teresa, either.

Pete.......I don't know how long ago you saw the Musical Fidelity X-Can V8P at your dealer, but I do know they are not manufacturing it any longer. Their newest headphone amp, the M1-HPA is a solid state Class A component ($799). I see the X-Can V8P headphone amps from time to time of Audiogon and Head-Fi.org in their For Sale forum. That's where I found the one I just purchase. I paid $400 including shipping. It came packed in its original factory box, with the owner's manual, and looks brand spanking new, not a scratch or blemish on it. The photos in the original post here are the actual unit I bought. I am very pleased with the purchase, the quality, and the performance of the V8P. I am positive you would love it.

Dan...it's been a while since I looked at it/talked to them about it. I'd say we're talking a couple of years. I want to say the retail was something like $450. Of course, this may have gone up since that time. If you picked up a mint unit for $400 including shipping, I'd say you did well.

Pete.......At that price new, you may have been looking at the X-Can V8, which sold for $599.00 list, but was reduced to $499 when it was being close out for the newer V8P which included preamplifier outputs, allowing the V8P to be used as a dual triode Class A preamplifier, albeit with a single stereo input. The V8P listed new for $699.00.

It is my understanding that Musical Fidelity has had enough requests for the X-Can V8P that they are about to re-release the Musical Fidelity X-CAN V8P with the list price $699.00. That is a good price for this quality level, but being able to purchase a clean used V8P under $400 is a great deal.
