Dan - Congrats on your new and beautiful HD800s. I listened to them at CanJam during RMAF this year. They look and sound terrific!

Dan, a nice review.
I own the HD650 since almost 9 years (it was their top model then) and I love it.
But the 700 & 800 are indeed a huge step upwards. I could hear that at the last Brussels' Hi-fi Show, with their fantastic headphone amps.

Dan,
Enjoyed reading your impressions of and experience with the HD800's. When the HD800's are paired with the right amplifier it is difficult to pull yourself away from them. Listening sessions like noon to midnight are and will be the norm going forward.

Dan, congrats on the HD800. They are a beautiful pair of cans for sure. It's nice to see that Senn. put a little more thought into the cable. I upgraded the cable on my HD600's to the Zu Mobius and it made a nice improvement. I've had my Musical Fidelity Xcan V3 through 3 different pairs of Senns. so it may be time to upgrade.

Dan...congrats on one the best cans out there, and thanks for sharing. They look great. That's a world class rig you have there, I'm beginning to get the headphone itch, and hope to one day get there. Are these model open back??

Simon.......Yes, the Sennheiser HD800 is an open back headphone. Others can hear slightly hear them while they are on your head.

Jack.......This new cable on the HD800 sounds excellent and the quality of construction an materials is impressive. It's quite a step up from the HD580/600/650 headphone cable. Like you I also used an upgraded audiophile cable on my Sennheiser HD600, the Stefan AudioArt Equinox cable. That was a nice improvement over the stock HD600 cable.

Don.......The Sennheiser HD800 is a serious step up in headphone performance that cannot be denied. I am so impressed with it. It actually exceeded my original expectations and for me that is a rare event. It is mating very well with the Musical Fidelity X-Can V8P headphone amp. The X-can seems to have plenty of power for the HD800 and the impedance match between the headphone and the amp sounds perfect to my ears. The overall frequency spectrum is well balanced with no obvious exaggeration of any specific range that I notice.

I want to learn more about the new Sennheiser HDVA headphone amplifier. Perhaps sometime in the future I may be interested in it and the Sennheiser CH 800 S balanced headphone cable. Right now I am perfectly content with the HD800 being driven with the X-Can V8P Class A tube headphone amp.
