I found the Magico Q5 sterile and amusical, at least the one time I heard it at my local dealer. Staying with Wilson for the time being. Perhaps the dealer had a bad setup, perhaps there was no synergy, but it was a very uninvolving sound and it didn't impress me. I've been meaning to go listen again to see if anything's changed.

I've not heard their newer Q series yet...am curious how those sound. I think I've read that component matching is pretty critical with Magico. If I recall correctly, the Q5 had SimAudio Moon source/pre and VTL amplifiers driving the Q5. Don't recall the exact model numbers.

It seems some of the opinion is that the Magico's are the better product and Wilson's technology is dated compared to the high tech cabinetry and drivers of the Magico. I haven't heard a Magico based system. I wonder who has heard the Magico's and how do they compare to similar priced Wilsons in there lineup?
Very different character and sounding speaker. It is like a Bentley vs Ferrari car. One built their box base on R & D (wilson with X. And S material) while another base on fundamental theory (magico on metal). Even on driver selection are different, wilson approach base on hearing and matching while magico goes for whatever latest in trend.

Hence the end result is magico tend to be modern sound (whether you like it depend on your taste, equipment and setup) while wilson is base on music sound love by million of people. The magico may be more truthful to the reproduction but the wilson is more livable with assorted music. Remember one basic thing, music recording in the studio are modify, edit etc and it can sound very bad. So accurate reproduction of the sound may not always be a good thing.

Lol. God of Thunder yes. Most definitely too much speaker for my room. It would be fun to have that kind of low end slam. Impressive, expensive subwoofer solution. 400 lbs!

It really does sound good. For those who are wondering, I have re-invested the money into muni bonds. Next window of opportunity is August of 2016 just right for the new Maxx. I have to say I'm disheartened. I guess I knew in my heart all along I'm not XLF material but it was fun dreaming at least for a little while.

You are xlf material. Your room doesn't support it. Get what works for your room. The new maxx will be incredible there, I am confident you will be happy.

I think it's a prudent upgrade path. Looking forward to your journey here on AA.

Charles , i am new in the forum and have taken the time to read the hole story from the begining. It has been of great value to me since i am in the same situation with the difference that i do not have any speakers at all and 44 years old. My room is 650 square feet aprox with a 8.530 feet in hight. Also i am planning to buy a lot to build myself a new house where i could make a better measured room for the speakers. So what should i buy? The XLF and live crowded for 3 to 4 years and then fully enjoy them or buy some Alexias for the time being as see what's out there in Wilson by the time my house gets finished? Thanx guys!
