The XLF's will work nicely in a 650 sq ft room.

If the person that owns them really wants to sell them let him get in touch with me. While true my Thor was a demo, I saw it personally for a whole year setting unconnected in a secluded corner of the sound room. I knew it was perfect and it was. The lowboy configuration is a must for me. I think if you are going to do something like this you must be able to afford it. My dealer is giving me a reasonable trade in because he knows the condition of my Maxxes. I have a good enough relationship with him that if I did have an illness and needed to sell he'd getem sold for me as a favor. I know I'm old fashioned about this; you young folks probably know better; but I think for an XLF you play it by the book: purchase a new speaker from Wilson; they are forever grateful and there to help if there is any problem; the in town dealer is very happy because they have sold an XLF; I am happy because my Maxx is gone. I have gotten credit for it in trade in, the transaction is done, no corners cut, and I can sleep at night knowing if there is any probelm, Wilson and my dealer will be there to help. I just think this is the correct way to do it.
You do tend to get what you pay for.

Quote: I want to be able to "turn it up" and still have the speaker say, "So what, I'm still loafing," if you know what I mean.

To my experience this is less a speaker thing, but all about Great amplifiers..

Quote: I found the Magico Q5 sterile and amusical, at least the one time I heard it at my local dealer.

Bad demo happens most of the time, less to do with the gear, but all to do with knowledge and experience composing gear. Dealers have to Work for it these days, the comfortable nineties are passed time.

I really like my Maxxes. Now that I have gotten over the XLF I am rediscovering what a good (not perfect) speaker it is.

Charles, you can relax now.

No speaker is perfect. No room is perfect, no amplifier is perfect, no source is perfect and certainly, no recording is perfect.

Another

Really well said, we all need to remember that and stop sweating over perfection.

That said, my system is perfect
