False corners for Khorns
Depending on your room size, LaScalas (as stated) with a pair of subs may sound better and WILL offer more height placement option for your seating position. You can raise a LaScala, but you can't shorten a Khorn. Unless you want to build a platform for your chair...... Have owned both and as much as I enjoyed the Khorns, prefer slightly raised LaScalas with two JL F112 subs. |

Thanks guys for all the information and advise. I am looking at Volti Audio Vittora which is kinda like the LaScalas and they also have matching subs. Anyway, nothing's firm and am toying around with ideas.
Cheers!

Closed back or not, the speakers require clear space to the left and right of them in order to extend the horn profile and get the most from them. |

The Khorn has been in production for something like 60+ years but, is still essentially the same design. PWK set out one day to revisit the Khorn and take it back to a 2-way design. He got to work on it with his side-kick Roy Delgado. They came up with a design that was to become the Klipschorn II. Some of its design goals were to have the same footprint of the Khorn (done), higher crossover point to allow for a 2-way format (done) and lower the distortion (done). In fact, with regard to distortion, from what I understand, the "Klipschorn II" has 1/3'rd the distortion levels of the Khorn. A nice accomplishment. PWK passed away and the company shelved the "Klipschorn II" but instead installed it into their cinema lineup as a 3-way speaker. The Jubilee is that speaker. I'll attach a picture of it. I know a fine chap who lives in England. He was able to order a brand new pair of Jubilee's, have them delivered to England for the SAME amount that it cost me (thanks to the exchange rates at the time) Because the Jubilee is in the cinema lineup, it isn't price pointed for home use. Meaning, the original price point for the Jubilee was being discussed at $20/25K for a pair. Because they are not "home" speakers, you can buy them (domestically) for essentially a third of that price. Point being, if a (domestic) buyer wants to buy a new pair of Klipschorns, they can for similar or possibly fewer dollars, instead buy the Jubilee and have PWK's last design in their home. Side benefit is, a stock Jubilee has 50 years of his experience designed into it rather than the Khorn being a 60 year old design. I'll bet he learned a thing or two in his 50 years of making horns. The Jubilee also has a closed back, making it less corner dependent. You NEED the corner to get the lowest octave out of it however, if you use a subwoofer or two, you can use it freely in the room or in a corner. I use a pair of Danley DTS-10 subs which are currently awaiting return of their active crossover. When I first heard the Juiblee, I decided in about 30 seconds that it was the sound I was looking for. I went home, put an order in for a pair and sold my Khorns within an hour (literally) to help fund the new purchase. I have not missed my Khorns for 4 nano-seconds since. |

They do look like they were ripped out from behind the screen of a commercial cinema.

The Vittora is an exceptionally well made and beautiful speaker. But very expensive compared to LaScalas. Even more so when you add the matching sub. Do they sound that much better? Has anyone ever heard them?
