Sound quality is absolutely diminished with a damaged tweeter. I have heard it and confirmed it with measurements,

I broke a tweeter yesterday evening when remounting the grille.
I suppose it's best to change both tweeters or just the broken one ?

Just replace the broken one.

Ever get to the bottom of the mystery Ed? I'd hate to think that B&W just doesn't make durable tweeters for that particular model speaker.

Would be most interested to see your measurements. Can you show us your "cards" please?

Got a part number for that? Do you know it fits? Cost?

I used to work in the audio industry as an engineer and worked on all sorts of drivers- aluminum, Ti, Be and silk. A cracked/damaged tweeter will have high distortion and poor frequency response.

That makes sense, but here we are talking about the outside cone so I wonder if this is really like a cracked conventional tweeter which you are of course right about....

dead diamond tweeter
Maybe I’m not understanding something here but why would you think that a damaged cone would not affect sound quality? If it doesn’t, then why is it a part of the design? Not trying to start something, I’m just trying to understand the argument.

I am not sure what you mean by the outside cone. The entire cone/dome is in motion so any damage to the diaphragm will impact performance since movement of the diaphragm will no longer be linear.
