Colin.......That is interesting information about the Auto-Off feature. I just checked both of my K-03's and neither have the APS display as you cycle through the setup options, so evidently the software for U.S.A. models is different than the UK models.

My K-01 has auto switch off, but it isn't in the owner's manual, and it caught me out a couple of times before I realised why it was switching off.
It's marked as APS >, and has the same options as FLaOFF ( the time after which the display will darken after playing stops and no operation is made).
The options are 15m, 30m, 60m and off.
After setting APS > OFF, I've had no problems with the K-01 switching off.
I must admit I've not heard of this new regulation. I don't see how it will be possible to retro add an auto off feature to an amp with a fully analogue architecture.

By the looks of the A-02/03 there are no logic circuits anywhere which is typical of power amps, even the majority of integrateds in high end audio. I would imagine it would require a total redesign of the architecture to add a feature like this. It would also mean that in the future amps will have to be a lot more complicated than needs be.

My dealer did not know why they were being withdrawn from the European market but is seems rather odd as the preamps C-03X and C-02 seem to be available (at least in UK). Hopefully its a temporary thing and you will be able to try one as they are very nice indeed. I only have limited experience to make a comparison but I would say the A-02 is slightly on the warm side of neutral, has a great grip of the flow of music and produces a sound that you can listen to for hours without fatigue. I also have a K-01 although its still in its box awaiting my return from a work assignment in the Middle East (only six weeks to go!). Anyway, if you are in UK and would like to hear the A-02 and K-01 combination you would be welcome to visit me in Devon with a bunch of your favorite CDs/vinyl or ripped music files. Good luck with the A-02 hunt.
Hi, Paul. May I ask how much you paid for the A-02?
I'm also away from the uk for a while but on my return in a few weeks time I'll rent a container for my stuff and I might just bring back an esoteric rig with me if it's worth it.

hfchoi,

I cannot answer your question on how much Paul paid for his A-02, but as it was the last one in Europe to that specification then it's probably irrelevant anyway.

Prior to April 30th this year the K-01 was listed at £14,995 and the K-03 was £9,995. They are currently listed at £19,995 and £11,495 respectively.

The last listed prices of the C-03, A-02 and A-03 were £7,995, £12,995 and £8,495 respectively. Although none of those have been available for quite some time.

Currently the C-02 and C-03x are listed at £21,995 and £10,995 respectively.

The A-02 and A-03 are not listed, what they will cost when, or if, they are back on the European market is anyone's guess.

I hope that this information is of use to you.

Hfchoi,

The A02 cost £12,995 from an authorized esoteric dealer in Devon. Interesting what Colin says about the auto-off feature. I will check my k01 for this when I get home in a few weeks and report back but it seems like a plausible explanation.

Is there any esoteric DAC that comes with a remote control for volume and input selector?
If not does anyone know a comparable DAC to grandioso D1 that has such remote? Thanks in advance.

K-01 is an all-in-one transport and DAC. Not at the level of the D1 but very good and has volume control.
