I use an Accuphase e-213. It's ok but it sounds rather laid-back. Maybe I should try an amplifier with more attack, a bit more on the 'analytical' side.

Dear All,

I have a pair of SF Grand Piano Domus and a pair of Concerto Home.
I have the following amplifiers:
First watt F5
First watt F5-X (A balanced version with X cancellation 30W class A)
SET 300B
SET KT88
And a Denon AVR 3808

The Concerto sound quite good, much better than the Grand piano. I am almost going to sell them, but maybe I should give a try with something with insane power, like an ice power 500A. What do you think ? Do you have any experience with any of the matches I can do ? What do you recommend ?

I was also thinking of pulling out the crossover of the grand piano and rearrange it to bi-amping, in order to use a class A on the high and AB or D on the woofer.

Ciao,

Davide

Did you make any changes in your power to your GP Domus? If so I'm curious what changes you made.

I picked up a pair about two months ago. I'm enjoying them quite a bit but I wonder if they need more power. I'm running them with my asl aq1003dt (30wpc) and while the sound is enjoyable when I try to get loud they feel underpowered.

I love the el34 amp sound so I'm hoping to stick with it but maybe it's time for a higher quality amp with a little more juice. I've had the asl for 12 years, really since I first got in to hifi

I am still not sure if my problem is the room or the amp. I did not do any real changes. I played a bit with the diameter of the bass reflex pipe. It's totally empirical, but when I restrict the duct I get more controlled bass ( or just less bass) and everything is more enjoyable. Also they really need to be far from walls.

I am still thinking about acquiring some Icepower 500 and see how they do.

Looking for something to drive a pair of Memento's.

A friend has a Krell FPB600c that he wants to find a new home for.

It sounds a bit overkill for what I want, but then I don't really know what I want/need. Anyone have any experience with that amp?

Should I be considering it?

I tried a Krell 400i. Sound signature of Krell goes well with Sonus Faber. No experience with the FPB600c though.

I use an integrated Karan with my Memento's. That's perfect! If you have a chance, you should really try it. I can almost guarantee you will enjoy it very much.

It should work well. I used to run the Memento with a pair of McIntosh MC501 mono-amp at 500w per channel. Of course you don't use all the wattage but the Memento loves high power amp. They are a requirement to get good sound from the Memento.

Had a Rogue Audio magnum 88 at the house yesterday. It-88, 60wpc in ultra linear. Wow! It really opened up my grand piano domus. Effortless sound, bigger 3D soundstage. Time to start amp shopping lol
