Default 800D3 vs 802D3

Who has heard the new 800D3 versus the 802D3? What were your impressions?

On a worldclass electronic system (Accuphase Reference) and cabling (AQ WEL Signature) the 800D3 won hands down.
I'd say the usual, since 1979 well known differences between 802 and it's larger brothers (801 / 800).
More sovereignty, more relaxedness, more transparency, more stomach. For me an absolute no brainer.

I have a pair of 800 D3 at my place for demo. I set them up where my 802D3 sound perfect but the bass is out of control. Can't seem to reign it in. Suggestions?

This is interesting. A member posted a month or so ago that he was at B&W in MA in their treated room and he commented about uncontrolled bass in the 800D3. They told him the room still needed tweaking. I thought that was odd . I'm interested to hear what you find out

Interesting to hear, but again, my guess lies in room interaction, perhaps you have to pull them out just slightly?

Hi SX-626,

For what it's worth, I've setup our pair of 800D3 in two different spaces in our facility. One room was the treated room you referenced, where the room inherently has peaks and dips in the bass (as all rooms do.) That room response modifies what you will hear coming from any speaker you place in that space. Once we finish the tuning of the room, those peaks are dips will be knocked down/filled-in. Taking that same set of speakers to a different demo room in the same facility yields a very different response in the bass because the rooms behave very differently in the bass.

Regards,

Patrick Butler

Thanks Patrick! I always enjoy reading your posts. I commented as I've read more than one person comment on their bass response. I would have to agree that the room and placement will have a big effect.
