I am looking for pure line stage.. no DAC no Phono pre. So no ML52 and Briscati too.
Esoteric doesn't have Bypass mode in XLR input. So no.
But I think I have tried enough, ok except Boulder, Ayre, Constellation. I am sure now
my favorite are ARC REF6 and Burmester 808 MK 5. They sounded like music. REF6 was more real, Burmester was more dream-like beautiful.

Hi Toga,
Please do not decide till you listen to the Constellation Altair 2 preamp. One of my Ref 40's was replaced by it. It easily bested it in all parameters. By the way I still have my Q5's . The amps are Hercules 2's and Digital section is DCS Vivaldi 2.0 in that system .cabling is all Nordost Odin. My other system still has the Centaur monblocks and ref 40 and The Vivaldi setup. The speakers have changed from the Q3's to the new M3's which are superb. I am in the process of changing my second ref40 to the Altair2 in the second system. It is so superior , there is no contest.

Jab, thanks. But no plan, and never will spend that much on preamp. No matter how good.
I think $30000-40000 is about max I will go. But nice to know that the Altair
Is as great as its price suggests.

Burmester 808 Mk5 is a lifetime preamp in terms of overall sound quality, flexibility, built like a German tank and beautiful like Sophia Loren. A timeless musical sculpture. I love it.

p.s.: I prefer it over a several top premps from different well renowned brands. Even I compared side by side with the outstanding 077's and It is sure a great preamp with modern sound properties, but i still prefer the unique magical sound of the 808's Mk5.
