Quality Control or Shipping?
Hello Everyone,
Has anyone experienced issues with their new McIntosh products directly or shortly out of the box? I have had two units in the past year have an issue requiring replacement. MC152: Dead left meter. Dealer helped get it replaced quickly. D1100: Green backlight glass (logo and control labels) very dim. Some of the letters in the labels are not lit at all. Lots of green light bleed through the top front air vent. Dealer has RMA but it will be a month or so before the replacement arrives. I purchase from my local dealer and they are very supportive in helping get everything ship shape. The box these units come in is perfectly fine but I guess they could have been dropped. I hate to say it but could something be slipping through the QA process at the factory? I had no issues with my D150 and MCT450 from a few years back. Two for two in one year is a but odd. Thoughts? |

Quality Control or Shipping?
Yes, purchased new MC452 in June, it had scuffs, imperfections in the black satin paint finish on the Autoformers, slight intermittent crackle when operating and the right heat sink if you tapped it would rattle. I upgraded to a new MC462, flawless cosmetics, but after a month of operation would not power on consistently. It appeared to be a fault in the protection circuit. My Dealer was outstanding for service and McIntosh was great and replaced with new MC462 that I received last Friday, so far all is good. It does seem very unusual that there have been these QC situations.

Friend had to have his mc-611s replaced already. Not powering on also. I had 601s for 5 years and they were perfect. Hope they get this figured out

Purchased a new C52 preamp a few months ago which was dead on arrival. Took several weeks to get a replacement from McIntosh as units were backordered at the time.

Wonder what is going on? I recall another AA member also having his MC462 arrive dead in September, Would not power on.

It must be a QC issue. Very sad [emoji20].

I have heard the factory received some bad meters and that has been a source of repairs for many.
Both meters on my C1100 have been replaced.

My Dealer speculates that sometimes issues are in fact due to a bad batch of parts.

Bad parts seem like a reasonable explanation - especially with many citing meter issues. I also heard from my dealer they are using a new type of back lighting on the glass fronts but do not know anything more than that.
At least the dealer is helping get it resolved and takes care of getting me the new D1100 and takes care of shipping it back. This is one of the benefits of using a local dealer when we encounter issues. |

Yes, agreed, I have become a master at Packing the MC452 and MC462 and taking them back to my Dealer.
