Hello!

Not sure where to post this question since I am new to the forum. I can't start a new thread.

I just bought a used MC452 to feed my Totem's Forest. I wanted to test how my speaker would sound with more Watts. I now have the feeling that I am unleashing my speaker full potential. My previous amplifier was the Naim NAP 100 (only rated at 50W/ch). I am still using the Naim DAC V1 as my Preamp. I believe it is a really nice digital preamp, but would like to see the result with a McIntosh product.

Now that I have tasted the MC452, I am thinking about changing the DAC V1 by a McIntosh product to match the amp. At first, I thought about the C47, but I realize that I am not using any analog IN. I only use USB, ALAC through Sonos Connect and transport CD as source. I was thinking that the D150 would be a good upgrade. And I am now looking at the D1100.

Can anyone give me some hints on how to approach this change? Would the D1100 preamp section be equivalent to the C47 preamp ?

Thank you !

Julien

We just moved into a new home, so the "back breaker" (our MC300) had to be moved. Man, I can only imagine what an MC452 must weigh! The best of luck to you with you latest "last amp."

Hi Julien,

I have a C47 and considered the D1100. I had the opposite situation, I have analogue sources and wanted some change up for digital from PS Audio DL3 DAC. I found the C47 gave me the best of both ‘worlds’. Unless you stay strictly digital I would leave the option open for a C47 or C52 in case you want analogue in the future.

Funny my wife commented that replacing the mc275 the system looks like a better match. Maybe time to get a c22 to match the 275

Now you're talking.

And best of all, none of that firmware nonsense!
