Interesting to read others have had various issues as well. While I understand problems can arise from time to time with a particular model, D1100 in my case, it seems the issue is across models MC152, MC462 and so on. McIntosh products are far to expensive and in many case heavy to get it home, unpacked and installed only to have to go trough a return and replacement process. Not to mention the disappointment of having something wrong with the new toy.

The good news is my dealer has been helpful in getting this part done. At least the D1100 has turned out to be an excellent sounding DAC. My issue is purely aesthetic. However, I did encounter some odd ball issues with a C47 and a MCT450. Playing a SACD, all of a sudden loud static appeared over the music program. Changing volume did not change the volume of static but did the volume of music. Short burst - 10 seconds or so. It happened a few more times then never returned. Firmware on the C47 was up to date when the incident happened.

Maybe some of these issues are a result of expanded availability of some products through online retailers. Simply having to make more of a given product or supplying stock to some of these outlets may put pressure to get things made. That being said - everything I have purchased with the exception of the C47 had to be ordered by my dealer.

All this being said the Mac gear I own I am very happy with my McIntosh gear. Still waiting on the D1100 replacement but I am sure it will be fine when it arrives. Hopefully Binghamton can figure out what might be happening to these units - especially for new customers that might not get the "warm and fuzzies" when they purchase a defective $5k - $10k piece of audio equipment.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of defective units are really out there and if it is a problem.

A number of years ago I had a MX120 processor and some display lights were faint and others bright. I decided to investigate what was going on and took off the front glass (easy but not for the faint of heart). What I recall, the LED light strings are wedged in there with a clip system and some had become dislodged. I was surprised more people didn't have that issue.

Best wishes,
Ron

Could be high demand for products, not enough people working at McIntosh, so the hand built craftsmanship may be suffering due to the hours the good folks there are putting in.

Poppyhome -

The issue you describe is similar to my issue. The logo is dim and some areas of the text o the glass are dim or not illuminated at all. You can also see a large amount of green light bleed through the top vents.

I took the the top off and did not see an obvious solution so stopped there. Would you suggest looking in from the bottom to see if I can see anything obvious? I was told some units are no longer using the fiber optic system and some other way of lightning the panel. Unclear what that might be.

If I could fix what is wrong without a whole lot of fuss that would be great. Mac is going to replace it so it might be best to wait to the new one arrives.

From what I recall, you most likely have to remove the top cover, side rails, top rail, and black sticky tape to remove the glass in order to see whats going on with the lights.............and that's somewhat of a PIA.
