Default Mcd1100 vs mct450 using ma7900

Hello. New to the site and in need of advice. I currently have. Mct450 connected to my ma7900 though coaxial cable. I have the opportunity to purchased a mint mcd1100. My question is if I use the 1100 through cd2 am I upgrading or just having a lateral move. Looking for best sound not the most flexibility. I only play RBCD’s. My 7900 is an older model without the din plugin on the 7900 so have to hookup via coaxial cable or rca or balanced connection. Other possibility is the mcd600 if that would be the best upgrade. Prefer to stay with Mac CD. Any advice is much appreciated
Speakers are Revel F228be wires transparent music link super audioquest coax. Thank you for your time. Regards.

Camsrep.......First things first. Welcome to Audio Aficionado.

The MCD1100 is a CD/SACD/DAC that you would connect to your MA7900 with either balanced or unbalanced interconnects to a line level input. Your MCT450 is strictly a transport that relies on the DAC in your MA7900 integrated amplifier. I have owned the MCD1100, in fact I owned two of them in two different systems. The MCD1100 is an exceptional CD/SACD/DAC. If you can swing a good deal on it I think you will find it to be a superior digital player and DAC than your present setup.

Agree but I would strongly consider the new mcd600. It has the most advanced DAC.

Thanks for the welcome and the solid advice. My concern was that the combo of 450 and DAC in the 7900 was the same result as the 1100. Regards

Technically the MCD1100 is a better piece but I am not sure you would be able to tell a sonic difference. My MCT450/D150 is a terrific combo, yet if my DAC on the MAC6700 could do DSD I would have not opted for the D150. If the two are priced equally I would opt for the MCD1100

Why not think about adding D1100 to the current set-up? Otherwise I would go with MCD600. With digital, I would always stick to the newest model.

I have no experience w/any of these pieces, but I have compared my MCD500's analog output to that of the MCD500->D100 output and they're fairly similar. The MCD1100 is certainly a highly regarded piece of gear and I'm sure the MCD600 sounds excellent as well, but I'm not convinced you're going to hear a world of difference between the two. The biggest factor would be how the DAC in your 7900 compares to the DAC in the 1100. It's easy to get caught in the upgrade game, but sometimes it's best to enjoy what you have and not think about what might be marginally better. Whichever path you take, enjoy the journey and you've already got one heck of a fine setup as is!

Agree. I have owned both the MCD1100 and now the D1100/MCT450 (as well as Esoteric K01x and Meridian 808v6 — still have the 808). Get a D1100. Forget the MCD1100, good as it is, the D1100 is a better way to spend your money.
