Received word from McIntosh the DACs in the C50 are made by Burr-Brown (and not what I (we) expected -- ESS Sabre).
I also asked about the C48 and the MCD1100 -- but I received one generic reply (above info). So, I'd assume the C48 fits that billing; but, not sure about the MCD1100. Maybe someone can ask while at CES. Bob

Bob.......That was my point in an earlier post. McIntosh readily spoke of the ESS DACs in the MCD500, but not a word about ESS with the C48/C50 preamplifiers, so I was fairly sure they were not ESS DACs. The latest Burr-Brown DACs are nothing to sneeze at, that's for sure, but the new ESS 32 bit/192Khz DACs seem to be grabbing the headlines.
