Default Pass Labs XA-60.5

Absolutely killer review on the XA-60.5 in Stereophile by Editor, John Atkinson.

Yeah. When JA says that "this is the best amplifier I've had in my system" that is saying something.

Yup, and he's heard a few amps in his time.

I was surprised JA did not jump to the large XA160.5s, XA200.5s amps or even the Xs series for that review. It's all good and was nice to read such good things about the equipment we own

Hi Carlos,

This is one of the things I like about Stereophile. They don't just focus the top of the line components but they also try to review some of the more affordable products in the line (i.e. XA-30.5 and XA-60.5). The same thing goes for Pass Labs. Both the X.5 and XA.5 lines offer some reasonably priced amps.

I was just listening to Jimmy Cobb's SACD, Jazz in the Key of Blue, through the K-01/XA-100.5/Salon 2 and it absolutely blew me over. One of the best and most enjoyable recordings I've ever heard (especially song #2) and the system truly was producing some world-class sound. Since I added the K-01 things have come together better than I could have ever imagined.

Happy New Year,
Ken

Yes, that's a great disc. I have it and enjoy it a lot. It was recorded with a single mic. I will listen to it again now that you recommend it.

I listen to classical mostly and a most enjoyable SACD is this Linn release. Check it out. As a cellist I think you will enjoy it (by the way, that is most impressive - I wish I could read music and play an instrument).

Handel: Concerti Grossi Opus 6, The Avison Ensemble

Yeah! It's one of my top ten discs. I recommend Presto Classical out of the UK to get European disc releases such as Linn.

I have recently bought a pair of used XA60.5 and XP10 preamp. Have just listened to the system for a week (cd-player is also new) and the Pass Pre/pwr amps seems to work very well with the Sophias. Just as I hoped. So I am a happy camper now!
