A real room quandry...

Ok, guys, here is what I have to work with. These pictures were taken at different times (note carpet colors!) with different cameras, but the basic layout is the same. Ceilings are unfortunately 8 feet. It's a gorgeous view of the woods, but the combination of two walls of windows with little room for acoustic add-ons and two wide open spaces on the other two sides makes it interesting to get the imaging realistic. There is little slap reverb to speak of, but I would like to get your opinions about what might help improve the overall sound. Furniture and audio components are to be upgraded in the near future, but structure (walls and windows) must stay as is. WAF very important.

Here is from well behind the sweet spot. Wide angle lens makes it look farther than it is, about 17 feet to the back window wall:




This is what the right channel "sees." It's about 33 feet to the far back wall and 31 feet to the side wall.

I will be very interested in what you guys think might help. I understand it's purely a visual/experiential thing for you, but I'm open to suggestions.

I had a neighbor whose setup was in a glass enclosed porch and the glass just sucked the life out of the system. He made a bunch of sound absorbers and placed them in front of all the glass but that does not seem something you could do in that room. Very beautiful place by the way.

I hope your listening spot is between your speakers and not too far back when completed.

I would agree that this seems a bit more ideal. In the windowed room, it would really be a bummer to place any panels in the way of that sunlight. Even if they were great looking panels, it would really detract from the space. Do you have any pictures of the fireplace room?

That was my thought too. Put the TV and all that in the other room. Make the Fireplace room your listening room. Glass = bad for acoustics.

The opening between the two rooms is not ideal, but wouldn't bother me as much as the glass.

Hey guys, I m starting to warm up to the idea of setting up in the family room with the fireplace. A battle may ensue with SWMBO, but I'm thinking about it being worth a try.

Here is straight on from behind where the sweet spot would be. I'm thinking the speakers would be where the two chairs are, along with other furniture changes:

Note there are skylights to break up the ceiling, and lots of nooks and crannies to disperse the sound. Still asymmetrical, but maybe that's not a bad thing? What are your opinions?
