Default Red Dragon Amps

I'm new here, hoping for you experts to steer me right! Does anyone have an opinion on these amps? I'm actually wanting Mcintosh equipment but, I'm intrigued with the class D amps and their price but, have never heard one. Anyone have thoughts on this brand or possibly Wyred amps?

-Thanks

I have not heard either amp, but I am a big fan of the W4S STP SE preamp. Big bag for the buck, although there are better ones (and more expensive).

IMHO, if money is an issue consider the Hypex Ncore NC400 DIY model.

If money is not the issue take a look at their OEM Ncore NC1200. You can find some of my thoughts under the post VERITAS Ncore NC1200 Amps: Experiances.

Other "Class D" amps I have heard and liked are the Spectron (I like the Mono version better), Cherry by DAC (liked the Spectron more) and Arion Audio | High Quality Power Amplifiers (only heard the hybrid).

Of the above: 1) Veritas NC1200
2) Tie- Spectron Stereo vs Ncore NC400 Mono. If you trick out the Ncore (quality chases and parts) it takes the lead.

3) Tough one as I only heard the Hybrid Arion amps vs the DAC amps.

As far as the Mcintosh, as much as I like them I would go with 1 or 2. Well I actual did go with 1.

Good luck.

PS I know of guys selling their Spectrons, Pass Labs, ARC, ETC and buying the Ncore amps if that helps.

Good info. I read somewhere where someone said that they felt Class D amps only made their speakers louder and did not contain any "depth". That's a difficult concept to grasp but, it makes since to me. I mean, an amp does just that but, to just turn up the volume is not the whole idea is it? I have never heard a class D amp but what do you guys think?
