Massimo...I have the Heimdalls - speaker cables and interconnects (one level below Freys). Nordost has a house sound shared by its cables. They are highly resolving, with excellent retrieval of detail and highlighting transients. Midrange is clean and gets instrumental and vocal timbres right. I find the bass to be tuneful and articulate. If your system is a bit on the bass heavy side, they will add articulation and speed to the bass. However, they do not enhance bass depth, so some people find them a bit thin sounding.

My take on it is that it's a system synergy thing. If your system sounds thin, adding Nordost cabling will not allow more bass to come through and it will reinforce the tipped up sound. However, if your system sounds a bit more lush, then Nordost cabling can add resolution and articulation. If you can audition them in your system and you can afford them, my recommendation would be to try the Tyr (one level up from Frey and one down from Valhalla). I did not find much of an uptick in my system from my Heimdalls to the Freys.

Cyril, many thanks.

So you suggest to take the Tyr and not Frey.

Unfortunately it is very difficult to listen before you buy them!

Initially I would take the speaker cables.

Massimo...if money is not an issue (it always is ), that would be my recommendation. I find the Tyr to be much closer to Valhalla (at 60% the price of Valhalla), whereas the Freys not that much better than my Heimdalls at 25% more than the Heimdalls. So for me the best values in the Nordost line are the Heimdalls and the Tyr.

My recommendation is to try to get your hands on any Nordost cabling from Heimdall on up to make sure it is synergistic with your system from friends, dealer, etc...before buying. If not, can you buy second hand? This way, if you don't like the Nordost cables, you don't lose too much on resale.

I was able to pick up a pair of Tyr speaker cables -dealer demo, so the pain not quite as bad. Arrived via fedex last night. They just sound right in my system. I am amazed at how light and thin the speaker cables are. Not like my giant diameter transparent and kimber speaker cables I have now.

Cmalak.

You are spot on in your assessment of the nordost sound. Most people that blame Nordost cables need to look at their system, not the cables. They are not tone controls like most cables but rather an open window.

Now, where can I find a 5 metre Tyr interconnect at a good price?

That is also my assessment of the current Nordost line.
