I used a dedicated 20 amp line. As far a Q15 vs. Q18 with a Q7 in a no holds barred system I go with the larger sub. I will say this, I suspect these Magico subs will have superb ability to pick up very low level sustained subsonic bass notes, bass that you can feel but barely hear that is in the background while other music is playing. There is something about acoustic suspension bass at the very low frequencies that a port simply can't match. Again, if I were a Magico owner, I could not be more pleased with the addition of these subs. Every Magico owner ought to consider a purchase.
Thanks for that detailed response. Of course, I have to ask...if you used to own a Krell MRS Sub for 6 years and ultimately did not find satisfaction...what do you own now for speakers and sub?

Most curious!!!

I have a Maxx3/Thor combo system. I believe a dual Q15/Q5 would be very competitive with it in terms of bass output. I believe Magico speakers ideal for subs because thy have natural non "hi-fi" bass. This type speaker is perfect for a well designed sub. However Magico's are so "good" only a Magico sub would ever work with them. Now you have two subs! You M owners are so fortunate.

I'm using a pair of Fathom F112's with my S5's, crossed over at 29 Hz. I'm sure the Q15's would be a major improvement, but it's not at all shabby the way it is.

Fantastic! I have an X1/Grand Slamm and a Velodyne DD18. I would love to think about a Thor...but it costs a pretty penny. With my X1s, I have had them 'mod'd' with latest Maxx 3 Tweeter, Ultra 5s, Transp Ref Jumpers cables added to the jumper plates and special isolation on top of the upper modules.

I will be using Entreq AC wraps around each of the 5 sets of Transparent cable that connect all of the modules...just to see what happens. Less EMI/RFI might help reduce distortion even more.

Meanwhile, would love to try the Wilson Active Crossover with great sub to see what happens to my X1s. Certainly, they were designed to be used with the Wilson Active Crossover...I presume you are using it with your Maxx 3s?

Fantastic speaker setup!

How does the Thor 'beat' the Krell MRS? Most curious about the Thor, and what it does to your system that you felt was missing with the MRS. Thanks for any insights!!!

Interesting...when you say crossed over at 29hz, are you actually cutting off the S5 below 29hz...or are you cutting of your sub above 29hz?

Always interested in hearing about other people setup their subs. At the moment, I leave my X1s running full range, and then have the Sub cut off above 39hz with a 48db slope.

Yes, I'm using a Pass Labs XVR-1 with both high and low pass set at 29 Hz, 12 dB/octave, medium Q.

Took a lot of experimentation to come up with those settings - they weren't intuitive to me to say the least. But yeah, sounds great and definitely better with the subs than without. FWIW, I'm using a pair of Pass Labs XA160.8 amps and an XP-30 preamp in this system.

Very cool ! Big fan of Class A amps that I have heard (Forte 4, older Krell FPBs and my old Gryphon Antileon and current Gryphon Colosseum).
