I also heard that comment from a couple of different individuals that attended.

I do like the Alexia's myself.

I don't think the general opinion (which I share) is due to the actual speakers themselves, but other factors.

Since I skipped RMAF last year I am not qualified to comment this time. I do understand where you are coming from.

There are many factors that go into the purchasing decision for speakers. Until the X2's there were no Wilson products that could entice me to give up my MBL's. From what I have heard from the Alexia's they might have been the second one capable of doing so.

I heard a pair of Maxx 3s at RMAF. They were driven by Doshi. The speakers seemed a bit large for the room; however, the sound was quite good.

The year before, Doshi was using Sashas. They sounded as well as I've heard these in the past.

In my humble opinion, Doshi and Wilson appear to have very good synergy.

I preferred the Alexias.

I really disliked the room with the MAXX 3s; they were far too large for the room they were in and as such the sound never really gelled into what I would consider a coherent soundstage. Good sound, but no real depth.

This is the same problem many panel speaker manufacturers have when demoing in smallish rooms; large panels need a large space to "breathe" and sound their best; the MAXX 3s and XLFs need large rooms to sound like anything other than two distinct sources of well-reproduced sounds.

I left the MAXX 3 room after a few minutes but revisited the Alexia room several times.
