Default Electronica - What are you listening to? Are you listening to it?

Perhaps this genre gets the least amount of respect, just above hip-hop.

I've taken quite a liking to this genre and its sub-genre's. Mathematical and extremely listenable. And not just for one occasion: you want to party - break out a bottle of vodka and have at it. Want to chill with some scotch and listen, go for it.

I know AmTrax was a former Trance DJ (sorry, amigo if I got this wrong), but hopefully can certainly chime in and help out a bit.

To get you moving, to relax you, and anywhere in between I find this type of music to be very enjoyable.

As an aside, my personal listening habits are anything except hip-hop (and its variants) and country. Top listening rotates between chill, trance + variations, flamenco, other latin-based themes, and oddly enough, some Indian Bhangra-type music (this is the party music of party music, by the way).

Groups or people you may have heard of in the "electronica" genre:
Enigma
B-Tribe
Depeche Mode
Tiesto
BT (Brian Transeau)
The Buddha Bar CD series
Hotel Costes CD series

Anyhow - let at it. Pour your favorite libation and do whatever you want, since this scope of music can allow you to.

Oh, I'm listening to it. Glad to hear somebody else giving Electronica some love.

My favorite Electronica albums, in no particular order. I tend towards the minimalist side of electronica, but enjoy it throroughly:

Sasha - Xpander EP
Paul Van Dyk - 45 RPM
Vector Lovers - Vector Lovers
Vector Lovers - Capsule for One
Sasha and Digweed - Renaissance The Mix Collection
Tiesto - Nyana (Disc 2)
Sasha - Airdrawndagger

If we're talking relaxation, the loungey sort of style that Massive Attack and Thievery Corporation are second to none. Actually, I think I'll put on some massive right now...

Very nice selections, Sasha, PVD, and Tiesto are some of my favs.

Though this is "low-resolution" - it works great for an iPod, I would recommend people to subscribe to Tiesto's club life Podcast - really a great way to get some new ideas about the genre (and to subsequently go find the WAV file).

Of all the Djs out there, Dj MARS is my favorite. His music is so unique and "happy" you will fall in love with it. He doesn't "live" much any more, but I still enjoy his old tunes.

BTW: Michael Adam RobinS brought Trance music to the Bay Area in the early '90's.

I'll be happy to send anyone interested my mixes. The last mixed CD I did was 2005. Old, but classics, like McIntosh.

That's a bunch of new groups to me, although I've got a couple cd's by Depeche Mode & Enigma. Really Enjoy Enigma's first CD. I'll have to check some of these out. In the meantime, I'm putting Enigma on - haven't played that in ages.
