I can tell you I've owned Wilson's for 30 years and have heard huge differences by moving them a quarter of an inch.
As far as models go, the latest sound MUCH better than the previous ones.
Make no mistake, the Sasha's are FAR superior to W/P 8's. Infact the S3's are superior to any of the W/P range....

I do not complain. Thanks to this kind of statements, WP7 and 8 are found on the used market at bargain prices.

Since 2 to 3 years, you can find mint WP8s between 12 and 15k.
S3 list price is 18 or 19k if I remember correctly.

I bought my WP8 13k euros.
A new pair of S3 is 18900 euros here.

Guys,

Aside from comparative equipment performance and pricing, which will invariably give way to contentiously differing opinions, I'ed personally be more inclined to just simply rejoice in the fact that the Wilson Audio Specialties family of fans is constantly growing bigger and more influential each and every day.

More importantly (at least for me), I'm thrilled that I have this opportunity to be part of this one big happy & harmonious family - and I trust that you guys are too!

That's just my 2 cents.

Philip

Since you quote me first...

My comments are based on Wilson OWNERSHIP, not on who owns what or how much you can get them for (post 2). I was passing this along to the OP to help him make an informed decision.

An "informed decision" simply based on YOUR ears if I may suggest....

No one.
You have the perfect right to consider that the Sophia 3 are better than any other WP except the Sasha but even if you owned all the Wilsons ever made, this will always be nothing more than your personal opinion. I know a few people who consider the WP7 and 8 clearly superior to the S3.
We are not talking about facts but about a subjective hobby governed by our senses.
Many audiophiles consider the original 275 "much better" than its modern version while the specs say that the modern version is "better". My MR77 tuner is much better to my ears than the MR85. Some consider the 601 amps much better than the 2301's and some will say "no way! "... My Linn Keilidh speakers are much better to me than the modern equivalent and so on....
This hobby is about personal taste. Nothing more.
Forget it by stating personal opinions as absolute facts and there is no more place for a "forum" about our hobby.

Actually I gave more credit to your statement than what you may think.
In my WP8 thread, I mentioned that some consider the S3 to be "far better" and that a listening of the S3 should be done before buying a used pair of WP8.

Well put! I completely agree with you. I feel that perhaps a lot of the conflict online comes from people expecting others to think, feel, an have the same likes/dislikes as they do. Everyone has their own tastes, and you know....that's OK! . It's the experience you get personally that matters. But these too are just my own opinions

Deb,
In my opinion, your opinion about Jerome's opinion in regards to g997's opinion is an opinion that is spot on.

Jerome, I've owned the S3 briefly and I have heard the WP8. In my opinion, it is totally feasible to build a fantastic system around either with the right partnering gear. Enjoy the WP8 and don't worry about other people's opinions so much.

Jerome......You've got a helluva speaker in the WP8, regardless of whomever has what other speaker, and with your knowledge and infectious passion for this hobby, I have no doubt that your system will be an absolute "killer" one! ........Also, I think it's wonderful that you've become a Wilson convert! .......Philip
