Gotta admit it is a surprisingly brief review by MM. I am not sure if he is that impressed or no longer is there quantum leaps in sound quality that previous Wilson releases brought and the XLF is now refinement of an allready awesome speaker.

If anything it reinforces the value of the Maxx3's - if you can call 69k value

I got a different feeling - he really found that the XLF is a big jump versus previous Wilson speakers.

And I have owned the MAXX3 and have some experience with the X2 as a good friend owns them. IMHO his comment about the X2 is completely wrong - a properly setup X2 would eclipse the MAXX3.

IMO, it's an excellent review from someone who has heard and lived with the big Wilsons for a long time.

It also points out the importance of a good WASP.

Yep, the quality of the review came up in both places
I used to really look forward to MM's reviews but it seems like his later ones aren't nearly as in-depth as they used to be....

I auditioned the MAXX3s extensively before deciding to buy the X2s a couple of years ago and I have extensively auditioned the XLFs. IMHO the XLFs and the X2s are very close and both are significantly better than the MAXX3s, which of course are great speakers. If I were deciding today, I would be hard pressed to justify the extra $30K for the XLFs. It isn't that they don't have some advantages over the X2s (they do, notably a quieter background which has to be heard to really appreciate), its just that the X2s are such amazing speakers that they now look like a bargain in comparison.

I really enjoyed reading this review. For anyone that likes the Ti tweeter I recommend a Transguard Tg60. I suspect the difference it makes with the Ti tweeter would be greater than with the newer silk dome (because it removes all the edge associated with Ti from the treble). I loved the treble with the Maxx3 before it was installed. Now I have the cleanest most delicate treble I have ever heard.
