Who prefers SF speakers with solid state?
Can solid state be made to work as well with these speakers?

Lots of very good amplifiers to use with Sonus faber speakers. Some are solid state and some are tubes.
Sfs are developed on a Ken Ishiwata designed solid state amp BTW. |

That is an easy one for me. I prefer everything with Solid State.
I have heard both the Elipsa's and Strad's with SS and they sounded exceptional. Jim |

Like I said in a previous thread
"I ABSOLUTELY fell in love with Reg's speakers. They were utterly seamless. Male/Female voice and stringed instruments gave me giant goosebumps. It was glorious." He has MC2301's and I loved it. As much as I loved the 2301's, I would prefer solid state for the lack of maintenance. A tube pre would be in the mix. I'm always making future plans. |

Joe.......I have had the C1000T with a pair MC275's set in mono driving the SF Guarneri Memento's in the studio system for a good length of time, and thoroughly enjoyed the presentation. It was very clean, super smooth midrange, full of life. The one exception was the GM's could use more than 150 watts maximum per channel that the MC275's had on tap. The story may have been entirely different had there been a pair of MC2301 tube power amps driving the Memento's.
Two weeks ago I swapped the MC501's in my main system with the MC275's in the studio system. http://audioaficionado.org/mcintosh-...mps-today.html The tube C1000T preamp feeding the solid state 501 power amps is an amazing combination on the Memento's. The additional power and dynamic headroom seemed to take better control of the GM's. The difference between tube power amps and solid state power amps driving the GM's isn't dramatic, but the 501's control the speakers with a firmer grip, and increased headroom. It is audible, impressive and enjoyable.

Hi Dan,
I remember you making the swap and being very happy with the change. I appreciate the insight. Ivan, Thanks for the pdf, I'll check it out. I see he tweaked some Marantz gear thought a web search. See how much I'm learning. This is fun. |

I think that ss can work very well with SF's. I use a Jeff Rowland model 8 with choke and top mod with my GH's and it is a very 'sweet' combo.
I do think that a tube amp is easier to get synergy with SF's than a ss amp, but as I said, a ss amp with some power and that is not too dry sounding works well, at least IMHO |
