New modification for Oppo 105 in the works?

A quite famous amp designer friend just got a stock 105. He was disappointed that the digital inputs only are good to 96/24. Whereas, the new computer USB input is good to 192/24. He also measured the unbalanced outputs and didn't think the sound quality was that good. He'll probably return it and get a 95 and have Dan mod that. He's borrowed my modded 95 and loves it with the Sophia tubes, etc. I was going to get the 105 and have Dan mod it but I think I'll just keep my 95 and my Berkeley Dac 2 and Alpha USB and use that for my computer. I also run digital out straight from the Oppo to my Dac and the sound is terrific - more resolved than the tube output stage, which is great for certain material.

Interesting comments, Mike. I am going to be getting a ModWright Oppo 105 and replacing my 95 because I want the digital inputs (the 96/24 limitation on coax/optical is not a big issue for me, and there are ways around it if needed). The fan noise on the 95 is present but not particularly obtrusive in my system, but it will be nice to have that eliminated as well.

I am highly confident based on my communication with Dan that the improvements he is making with his modifications and upgraded external power supply will result in the 105 being a better overall performer. I am excited to have it in my system in the what sounds like will be the very near future!

Thx for the link. Interesting that he's doing Cardas connectors for the RCAs but not for the XLR. I guess the stock ones are good enough.

Will need to see what he has to say about LPS for the video section.

For the record, 6moons has part 1 to reviewing this. So far, it's basically what the blog says.

Hahaha, the nerve of some people.

Charging 2300$ for slapping some tubes in and an ugly PSU. and it doesn't even include NOS tubes, just you bog standard EH. No measurements in sight anywhere on that website either.
