The r105/3 had an unforgiving tweeter and I ended up with a kav 300il driving the top with a b&k 4420 and kube full tilt for the bass, but they could play uncompressed, imaged as good as any and probably the best built cabinets I’ve seen in that era. If I consider inflation on a personal level they would list for $7k today. I kept them for 10 years after buying the beethovens because those babys could rock!....114 dB peaks really make drum solos. I abused them for 25 years!
My recent quest was to find a full range speaker that was voiced like the va’s but could play fast and loud like the kefs when the music demands. The big ushers came close, the big M nails it. Last edited by stev809; 08-26-2019 at 10:53 AM. |

Those were my loved, here’s the rest. Fischer xp95c, poor mans cerwyn Vega.
Some pretty good realistic towers. Epicure model 5, ouch Ads l9e, also bright Polk sda 2b? Not bad for soft listening. Revel f52, shoulda bought the hegel when I had those. Salon1 too big to image in my room Salon2 lumpy bass and tough to drive to realistic spl. Vienna Acoustics Strauss, I had hoped for a Beethoven that played louder, louder yes, but the tweeter gives up some resolution to musicality. |
