Default CDs ripped to digital files

For my PS Audio Perfect Wave DAC I have about 200 CDs I wanted ripped (or burned?...never remember the difference) to a hard drive. Does anyone have a recommendation on a service where I can give my CDs and they will be converted to audiophile quality digital files (e.g., FLAC, AIFF or Apple Lossless)? I live in Portland Oregon but am willing to ship my CDs as well. If there is an existing thread here on AA many apologies...but pls point me to it. Thanks,
Darrin

Rip is extracting the files and make a copy. Burn is extracting the files and burn it to a disc.

iTunes does a good job and is bit perfect. I will take some of your time to rip everything.

Don't waste your money on a "service."

Between free software like EAC (amongst others for proper rips), and the ease of doing things, you'd be nuts to not just do it yourself.

Hell, if my own extremely-computer-illiterate father can rip his entire collection to a NAS, ANYBODY can do it!

Aiyah .... TIME lah ....

Plus its so much a chore ... Take Out CD from CD Jewel Box, Insert CD, rrriiipppp, REMOVE CD, Put Back CD into Jewel Box, Find best looking Cover Art, Paste Cover Art .... Plus each CD take about 3 minutes to rip. One more minute for pasting CD cover art ....

All in all 200 CDs = 600 minutes minimum, which is like 10 hours.

Tears in the eyes and sore back man ....

I know cause I have done 1600 CDs myself.

Seriously, "Vesuvius" is right, the fun is doing it! Be A Masochist!

Just joking. But really, the satisfaction is doing it and be happy on the hobby!

Cheers!

Yes. But make certain the import settings are what you want - Apple Lossless for bit perfect. AFAIK, that is not the default.

In iTunes, go to preferences->General->Import Settings.
(That's the structure on the Mac, not sure about Windows.)

There is a comprehensive article in the current Absolute Sound comparing several different ripping software programs. All bit's are NOT created equal.

The other excellent source is Computeraudiophile's site.I have linked to that site several times.

As others have said, I also enjoy ripping to my servers. I also maintain a complete file of all my album artwork that I share between my two servers and my MusicCollector program.

I don't collect music on my servers. I go thru them a couple of times a year and delete music that does not get played. I also don't keep CD's that don't warrant playing. At least once a year I go thru the rack and dispose of the mistakes or music that does not justify the occasional playing.

Hey dpo4. I'll either rip them for you or come to your place and walk you through the process. I'm at my computer most of the day, anyway, so it wouldn't be that hard for me to do.

Thanks everyone. I've been ripping to Apple Lossless via iTunes and to FLAC via Max but I am lazy and have too many CDs. And figured paying a service $100 is worth 10 hours of my time. This thread is my wake up call to man up and power thru it. Thx
Regards,
Lazy Boy

If you're using a PC, J. River will rip with error correction and will add track info/album art in most cases.
