Jim.......Can you give us a little more insight into what you mean by "significant improvement." There are some among us who think we simply convince ourselves of audible improvements to justify the expense of the fuses. You know, the ol' placebo effect. What differences did you find most outstanding with the upgraded fuses in your Maggies?

The mid panels gained clarity on difficult classical passages, and the ribbons gained increased openness and greater attack on percussion instruments. IMHO

Of course it took some time to uninstall and reinstall the fuses when I compared them, but after 4 turns I felt there was a definite improvement.

Regards,
Jim

Jim.......Thank you for the follow up. Your experience is similar to others who have switched to upgraded fuses. In fact, the majority consensus parallels your experience, as does mine.

Last night I removed the two HiFi Tuning Supreme fuses from my C1000 controller, and the two from my MC2301 power amplifiers in the studio system. I replaced them with the stock fuses. I began the audition with the HiFi Tuning fuses still in the system, listening to the CD of Gabriela Anders - Wanting. Then I installed the stock fuses in the C1000C and the MC2301's and played the same CD again. What I discovered was a small but discernible reduction in the micros details. Diminishing instrument tones seemed slightly less dimensional as if flattened to a degree. In the female voice frequency range there was a slight loss of clarity at the beginning edge of voice sounds, not a dramatic difference, but rather a slight softening of the leading edge of Gabriela's voice as she sang the words to a song. It is important to note that what I was hearing from my system with the stock fuses was not a disappointment by any stretch of the imagination. The C1000C/P preamplifier, MCD1100, and the MC2301 power amplifiers are phenomenal performers. None the less, when I reinstalled the HiFi Tuning Supreme fuses in the C1000 controller and the MC2301 amplifiers, playing the Gabriela Anders CD again was a fresh experience over the stock fuses. Diminishing instrument notes gained a greater clarity. The organic nature of Gabriela's voice seemed to have more air, and the very beginning sounds of her voice offered improved leading edge detail.

Don't ask me to explain how this audible improvement takes place by passing alternating current through a half inch piece of gold and sliver composite wire in a ceramic tube. I have no logical explanation for the audible improvements, but to my ears there is no denying the increased clarity, particularly in the midrange frequencies and above. There have been enough members here at AA who have purchased these fuses, as well as other manufactures upgraded fuses, and the majority have reported essentially the same experience. I believe the improvements are real and repeatable. The latter point is the ultimate proof in my opinion.

Some believe the price, $50.00 or so per fuse, is ridiculous. Honestly, I agree, especially when a stock glass fuse can be purchased for $1.00 or less. Still, I ask myself what is the value of an improvement to my sound system if it increases my enjoyment. The fuses cost $200.00 for my studio system and $150.00 for the living room system. For a total of $350.00 I have discovered an increase in my enjoyment of both sound systems. When you think about it, that's a small price to pay for a sound system tweak that actually delivers on its claim. I am not trying to sell these fuses to anyone, just reporting on my personal experiences, and of course your results my vary. For me, it's about the satisfaction and fun factor, and seems well worth it.

Dan...I wonder if the tweak will be notable in the 240v variants...must put on my to do... As I'm running Furutech wire, I will put the order in for some Furutech Rhodium plated OFC fuses. They seem to have good reviews too.

Steve.......Since the HiFi Tuning fuses are rated to 250 volts, I would suspect they will deliver similar results in your equipment operating at 240 volts.

Dan... Did you blow on them first?

Seriously, I'm as puzzled as you; but I already know they work.

Ivan,
I read an extensive article (on another site) ....they boiled it down to less vibration in the Hi Fi..

I was thinking of using these same brand tubes in my Magnepans. When I was doing some research, I found out that the arrow on the fuse is just part of the company logo and has nothing to do with insertion direction. I read they were identical eather way.

The arrow is important as it is suppose to track the curvature of the earth thereby avoiding interference from electrical fields of other planets.

This arrow direction business describing the way the fuse faces, reminds me of an old Abso!ute Sound article written by Enid Lumley. She told how her system sounded darker or brighter depending on the direction her kitchen faucet was facing.
