Do other companies that offer DSD's let you know what albums were originally recorded with. I would assume if a recording was released as a SACD that it was done in DSD but I thought I heard that many SACD's were copied from a CD. I am confused.
Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. Caveat Emptor.

I use Tidal to try to find an album and give it a listen before spending money. The resolution and format is not nearly as important as the source/mastering. The Analog warmth, smoothness and natural ease and flow is unmistakable on recordings sourced from analog master tapes. Those are the ones that scream buy me to my ears from the first listen. So far I have not been disappointed.

Unfortunately, not all SACD’s are made from a DSD master, one terrible example is AP SACD of Cat Stevens, Tea for the tillerman.

Yes provenance is quite an issue, and difficult for consumers to get truthful info about.

And to add more confusion, most music recorded in DSD is converted to PCM for editing and mixing, and then back to DSD if it’s going to SACD.

I guess the limiting factor in CDs/SACDs is the variation in reflective index of the injection molded plastic used..

Just curious, how does the DSD downloads compare to the Tidal streams of MQA?
