Very cool! Thanks Serge.
Just this morning I took the Ferry from Staten island to Manhattan. Looks like they were doing the same over one hundred years ago, although I'm not sure if they came from Staten Island in the video.

Yale Economist Irvin Fisher right before the Crash.
More quotes from Irvin Fisher. "There may be a recession in stock prices, but not anything in the nature of a crash." "The end of the decline of the Stock Market will probably not be long, only a few more days at most." "The nation is marching along a permanently high plateau of prosperity" |

Yep, this video made me say, Hmmm Dejavu? History does have a tendency to repeat itself. Low interest rates? Check. Little regulation? well sort of. Businesses borrowing more money than they can repay? Many are way overleveraged. High tariffs? Working on that! Gap between the handful of wealthy and the rest of the population? Oh yeah. Unrestricted credit and the population buying all kinds of good and services? Yep. Living well beyond the means? Well 65% of the population has less than $1k in savings today. Banks investing into the stock market? You bet. Run on the banks and bank closures? We've seen that in 2008-2010. What has changed other than FDIC insuring those banks?

Rather simplistic...and debatable.
Can't we just enjoy, reminisce and save policy commentary for another time and place? |
