In any event, Spotify on the Sony sounds great. Thanks!
I think it's the DAC and the 'massaging' of the signal from Spotify.

Here is an interesting link. https://www.theverge.com/2017/4/5/15...fy-hi-fi-tidal

I hope it becomes reality soon.

I set up the Sony last weekend and out of the box knew it was a keeper for me.

Default Sony HAP-Z1ES

The Sony HAP-Z1ES has now been in the market for several years. As good as this unit is, I am wondering when a new version will be announced. I know that Sony has been making software upgrades over time adding capabilities (like being able to rip CDs).
I sold my Sony unit sometime back. But here are a few of the features that could entice me to consider a newer model:
-Roon ready so it can work as a Roon end point.
-More digital outputs.
-Tidal playback.
-ability to full decode MQA

Good list - I would add at least an option for a larger hard drive.

The drive size isn’t a limitation- one can add a large USB drive to the HAP-Z1ES.

Has anyone played a DSD file using USB out? I’ve set DSD OUTPUT (DoP) to ON, but all I get is static with the song playing very faintly in background.

I did and I believe there was another setting but I don’t remember what it was. By luck, I am setting another up for my buddy and will play with it tonight and see if I can figure it out.

Just connected the HAP I have to my K03x, set USB output to Auto and DSD Output (DoP) to ON and it is working fine as long as I also set DSD Remastering to OFF. If that is set to ON, there is a static/hesitation in the music.

Default Sony HAP-Z1ES

Thanks Craig. It’s got to be my DAC then. I sent an email to Schiit tech support to see if it’s DoP compatible. At least we know the HAP-Z1ES does play DSS files using DoP.
