Default Pulmonary Embolism

Has anyone experienced this? 3 days ago I spent most of the day in the emergency room with serious pain in my side, being poked and prodded and scanned, eventually learning I have a blood clot in my lung. I’m now on blood thinners and still running a low fever, and the pain is taking its sweet time abating. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what recovery was like.

I had a blood clot in my brain a few years ago and have recovered with few lasting issues. Had to take blood thinners and adjust my diet. Just do what the Docs say.
Get well
Ed

As a MD we see these all too often. Usually there is an associated cause such as recent surgery, a recent prolonged hospital stay, a recent long trip in an airplane or car or some other cause of immobilization.
Other causes include a diagnosis of cancer (or yet to be diagnosed), a hyper coagulable state (extra thick blood like factor V Leiden or anti phospholipid antibodies) and blood clots elsewhere in your body especially the legs.

These are VERY dangerous and you must take your anticoagulants as instructed to prevent recurrence or progression.

I also suggest you have complete hematologic work up and a cancer work up especially checking for prostate cancer.

Get well and enjoy the tunes.

Tony,

Agree with all the above. I assume you didn’t have too much clot, else they may have kept you in the hospital or even may have done a procedure where they try to remove some clot.

Best of luck in your recovery. Feel free to message me if you have any questions or need anything.

My sister in law had that 4 months ago. She, age 47, was hospitalized a number of days and was in extreme pain. It took a while for doctors to figure it out after many tests. She is not overweight, non smoker, non drinker, athletic, and runs. Pain eventually subsided but remained for a number of weeks. She's feeling good now but was really scary at the time.

Hope you get well soon!

Ron

Thanks for all the feedback, I really appreciate it. The starting point seems to have been a clot in my leg. I had a severe pain in my calf a couple of days after coming home from Hawaii (a 6 hour flight). They did an ultrasound to look for DVT but didn’t find anything so the doctor thought it must have been a pulled muscle. That was a couple of weeks ago. Now the last doctor I saw says it’s too coincidental, they must have missed a clot in my leg.
