AM radio alive and very well in North Dakota
Hey guys, I've been meaning to post this for awhile. The last few months I've been doing a lot of trips between Fargo and Bismarck for work and the last couple times I spent time checking out the AM radio market there. It's pretty amazing. I heard at least 4 different music only stations, one was the syndicated true oldies channel, 2 were country and I can't recall the fourth. Tons of talk radio as well, I heard one station that was so local they had an announcement about a lost cat! I talked to a friend of mine who is in AM radio here in Chicago and he said the flat land and something with the soil there is great for AM. I never thought I'd find more AM stations in North Dakota than Chicago. Has anyone else been in areas with a large amount of AM content?

Steve.......Florida has a number of AM stations. Jacksonville even has a popular AM station that simulcast's its signal on an FM channel. Lots of people really enjoy local radio, particularly in smaller local markets.

I didn't think anybody listened to AM radio anymore. The only time I do is if I'm trying to get a traffic report while I'm driving. Our local sports talk radio station switched from AM to FM a couple of years ago and that was the last time I listened at any length to AM radio. I hardly ever listen to FM now days since I got XM in both cars.

We have lots of AM stations in NY, but the only one I listen to is WCBS news radio 880. I don't know why they can't have better sound quality than they do despite their limited audio frequency range. |
