I asked my wife to sit down to see if she could tell the differece. She said she can't explain it but it sounds better (she then described a wider sound stage and smoother sound). The rest of my system is EMM Labs DAC2/TDS1, Lamm 1.2s, Sasha's and REL G1 Sub.

How long you wait?

Joe; Did you break in your REF40 by running it for hours or only while listening? I am running music through it some times without the amps on just using my PC server and dac to run music through the pre. If I didn't do this it would take me a while to hit 200+ hours.

Chuck...I would call ARC and make sure it's ok to run the Ref 40 without turning on the power amp. I believe tube amps like to see a load (i.e. speakers) when they are on. Not sure whether this holds true for the preamplifier as well. If yes, then you should have your amp on and speakers connected when running the Ref 40. Better to confirm with ARC than be sorry. Just a thought.

Very nice! Enjoy your new Ref 40. It is a beauty. Having heard it before, I know it is a fabulous sounding pre.
