If they are a significant improvement over the very fine 1.7's, they will be some speaker indeed.

Jim have you heard the 1.7 ? I am a fan of Maggies. My MGIII's are 24 years old and while they sound good with a JLF112 for each speaker they do lack in the bass compared to modern speakers. The midrange and ribbon tweeter are the strong points. I do not have a dealer to demo them near me, do the new maggies have decent bass ?

Yes, I was able to hear them at a local dealer and AK Fest. I only listened for a few minutes at each location and was impressed by the overall sound. The source material being played did not have a lot of deep bass content but the upper bass sounded pretty good. They appear to be a real bargain at $2k.

Drive down to wilmington and listen at overture. It is not that far from bucks county and has the advantage of no sales tax Delaware. I ended up with 1.6 and a sub (rythmik E15) as I did not find the bass satisfactory with any of them (I never listened to 20.1 as it was over budget). I thought about 1.7 but wanted to wait for the 3.7 so I got the 1.6 to hold me over. My next spend will either be a new amp (probably a MC4102) or the 3.7. Honestly I am pretty happy with what I have now, but I want tubes in the main system.

I'm a long time 3.6 user and can't wait to hear the 3.7 when my local dealer gets them in stock. Good news is he's also a Mac and ARC dealer so I can hear them with the same pre and power amp I use at home.

1KW, Audiolab in Fairless Hills is also a dealer and close. They are selling the demo 3.6 now.

I'm not affiliated with them.

The Magnepan web site has been updated to include info on the 3.7. There are also a lot of links to CES show reviews, pretty universal in singing the praises of the new 3.7.
