Default TONEAudio issue 34 ready for download...

Hello all:

Issue 34 is ready for download. The links and TOC are not on our website yet, but here it is for those wanting to see it first.

We've got a very wide range of music this issue: an interview with Gregg Allman discussing his new album, Ben Fong-Torres reflects on the beginning of the Jefferson Airplane and quite a few album reviews. We're also featuring the review of the new Rega DAC as well as the new Estelon speakers that some of you may have seen at the RMAF along with a lot of other gear.

For our iPad readers, we will be launching this issue on Zinio as, the first issue in our Premium category on Jan 9, so stay tuned, we will announce this when it is ready to roll. Zinio has informed us that there will be a reader geared for the Android tablets, starting with the Samsung Galaxy in the next month too.

For this first issue on Zinio, there will barely be any difference between it and the free issue of TONE (which we will not abandon), but starting with our Feb issue, the premium version will have more photos, interactivity, some video (wait till you see the new product reviews) and a few other goodies, that will increase all year.

A year's subscription (8issues) on Zinio will be $14.95, with single issues only $2.95 One of the big things I've heard people squawk about is that many online publishers are charging more for online issues than print. As we'd like to keep this fair, we are not following the lead of the paper magazines and charging the reader heavily for a single issue.

I'll have another post beginning of Jan as soon as we are go on Zinio.

You can download the standard PDF (23 mb) here:

And the High Res PDF (210 mb) here:

As always, thanks for reading!

Thanks troops!

I think you guys will really enjoy this on the iPad with Zinio. The navigation is much friendlier and as I said, we will be offering even more content in that edition.

After almost six years of people saying "I can't believe you give this away for free, you should charge for it", I finally thought, "you know, we should!"

And, I do think being on the Zinio newstand will expose us to another group of readers. We will be right next to Stereophile in the hifi section and pretty close to Spin on the music magazine section, so I'm anxious to see what happens!

I would love to hear those Estelons! Maybe at RMAF 11'.

Jeff,
Nice smackdown on the editorial page. Long overdue.

I ended up buying most of your 2010 Best Of selections from TA33, (the ones I didn't already have) and I've had a blast listening to some things I wouldn't have otherwise found. Like Jamey Johnson and Arcade Fire. How cool is the Jamey Johnson Album?

I think TA will hold a well deserved spot next to Mix and the other audio mags. The gear IS just as important as the music.

Tom

Really glad to hear we are helping you to find new music. That's really important to all of us!

I can't imagine I'll be getting a big hug from John Atkinson or Robert Harley at CES in another week, but I stand by it!

Hi Jeff,

So issue 34 is still FOC ... and starting issue 35, will need to buy from Zinio, is my understanding correct?

Asked as I want to make sure I dont subscribe starting from the "wrong issue". Thanks.

A belated well wishing - Merry Xmas & A Happy New Year, to you, your staff and all at the forum.

Cheers!

Jeff ,

Great issue, now I want a c500 ! I already get stereophile via zinio but unlike what you have planned for Tone Audio the issues do not have any video or additional features. I'm looking forward to your iPad version. I am using my iPad right now. The iPad has become my travel computer (its smaller and easier to travel with) for Internet , emails, watching movies on flights, listening to music and downloading pictures off my digital camera and the battery lasts forever with the flash memory instead of a hard drive.

Howie

We are not discontinuing the free issue going forward. We are merely adding a premium issue option that will work better on the iPad and also give you even MORE content than we now offer. We will be adding video to the mix, additional photos of gear and live shows, along with some other "bonuses"

So if you'd still like to get TONE for free, that's no problem...

However we are certainly hope some of our readers will feel like subscribing to the premium version.

We are also hoping that by being on the Zinio newsstand, that we will find an even bigger audience, as well as achieve the same ABC certification that print magazines enjoy.
