I agree 100% with MF and believe it was a more then fair write up.

Yes, Mikey's Obit rebuttal may have been a bit harsh, but then I am sure that when his time comes someone will be taking shots at his vinyl hooey.

Very interesting read (point of view). Some of the comments after the article are interesting. The bottom line is that Bose must appeal to somebody as they sell plenty of product to keep all their many stores open.
It does not matter that the product may not appeal to a small group of audiophiles as long as it appeals to the masses. With regard to litigation; Bose does not litigate nothing compared to Apple, whose average products are as overpriced as any Bose product but appeals to the masses. Welcome to free enterprise. Either way I do feel its disrespectful publishing such a vitriolic piece so soon after his passing. At least a wait of a month or two would have been more appropriate to a period of mourning.

I've never liked Bose. It is a pseudo-audiophile company marketed towards people who don't know any better. Once, I bought a pair of their headphones for nearly $300 and they sounded like crap. To make matters worse, they were made out of such cheap plastic, they fell apart within a few months. I always shudder when someone tells me they just bought a Bose system and I always give them my brutally honest opinion.

When the NYT published an obit that reads like a marketing press release to promote Bose, I say the flood gates opened for Michael Fremer to speak his truth. Good for him, and I agree with him. It is a good article.

As an example, I bought an Apple MacBook Pro for $2700, used it for 3 years and sold it for $1200, still in perfect working order. My net cost was $500/year. Before that I bought a Dell Inspiron laptop for $2200, it lasted for two years, and had no resale value since it barely worked anymore. My cost for that was $1100/year. More than double the cost of the Apple.

No, not Amy Vanderbilt, just normal human kindness, tenderness and sensitivity. IMHO, only an insufferable jerk would write and publish that sort of article upon the death of ANYONE!!
