I think it will be in high demand. If its even mid level quality and priced right, it'll bring many into the hifi space, especially those who don't want the hassle of wiring, pairing components, etc. Heck, just think of all the bedrooms, workshops, boathouses, pools, cabanas, and so on just waiting for good music!

The whoosh you hear is the vacuum of desire being fulfilled. Hah!

Dynaudio is providing a world premiere of the company's Xeo loudspeaker system, the company's first high-end wireless loudspeaker. The Xeo 3 compact monitor and Xeo 5 floor stander ($2300 and $4500 for complete setup) are wireless, remote controlled active loudspeakers delivering Dynaudio sound quality. Users can enjoy wireless audio playback with full CD resolution without no compression or loss of quality. These units are compatible with virtually any audio source via USB, TosLink optical digital or analogue stereo connection. These systems are ready for multi-room installations with multiple sets of Xeo loudspeakers. Both models utilize high performance Dynaudio drive units powered by integrated digital amplifiers featuring digital sound processing. The tweeters are 27 mm soft dome designs with Dynaudio’s precision coating, while the long-throw mid/woofers are 14.5 cm drivers featuring Dynaudio’s proprietary MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer) cones. Each Xeo 3 and Xeo 5 loudspeaker receives the music signal digitally from the Xeo wireless transmitter, and process the signal digitally until amplification. Each Xeo loudspeaker set is supplied with a Xeo transmitter and a remote control, with the transmitter communicating to the internal amplifier in the loudspeaker, with no need for any further connection to a router or LAN. Sadly, the Dynaudio Xeo Transmitter converts a digital, wireless signal, sending such at full CD resolution (up to 16-bit/48 kHz) to the Xeo 3 or Xeo 5 loudspeakers, yet can not provide full resolution of the far more popular with audiophiles pure digital USB 24-bit/96kHz or higher.

Interesting post, but Enjoythemusic is completely missing the point: this product is not targeted to "audiophiles", it is targeted for everyday folks who want great-sounding speakers and for whom CD-quality is "high-quality" when what you're used to a diet of mp3s. This is probably 99.9% of the people who listen to music.

Look, it's actually better quality than what one gets from listening to a Squeezebox Touch streaming content from a radio service like Spotify or Pandora, and we all have those and use and enjoy them, even though we are audiophiles.

Griping that the Xeo only does 16/48 and doesn't do 24/96 is like saying that a Canon G1X point and shoot doesn't perform like a Canon 1DX digital SLR. Fer crissakes, who would want a camera that isn't a 1DX? That's what pros want....why wouldn't you want that?

Well, most folks don't want a Canon 1DX that will do 24 megabyte double-truck spreads in the New York Times as their camera, they want to take snapshots and the occasional nice photograph and upload them for their friends and family to see on the web.

Dynaudio CEO and founder, Wilfried Ehrenholz regarding XEO: "Dynaudio aims to bring the high performance sound that the audiophile market requires in line with today's demands of a wider audience who is interested in intelligent designs, the latest technologies and a simple and convenient platform to listen to music in higher sound quality."

What Ehrenholz means by a wider audience is an audience that are not "audiophiles".

Have to disagree with you. Enjoythemusic did not miss the point. Believe that you are missing the point.

Now if Dynaudio said True High End (except for audiophiles).....

Read this direct from Dynaudio-

LAS VEGAS , Jan. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Dynaudio, the Danish based high end loudspeaker specialist, is proud to introduce the new Xeo loudspeakers, the world's first true high end wireless loudspeaker system at the 2012 International CES in Las Vegas . Comprised of two models, the compact Xeo 3 bookshelf monitor and the slim Xeo 5 floor stander, the Xeo models are wireless, remote controlled active loudspeakers offering the convenience of wireless operation in a fully active loudspeaker concept with the sound quality that Dynaudio has become renowned for. Both models utilize high performance Dynaudio drive units powered by integrated digital amplifiers featuring digital sound processing.

I just don't see this as hassle-free as some others seem to. You're just trading speaker cables for additional power cables, pretty much. Overall cable count compared to a common stereo setup goes down by only one, and even that only if you're using a computer as a source and therefore get both power and signal via USB. Easy-to-use multipurpose amplifiers with built-in DACs and such already exist. Other than tripaths and such they're certainly larger than the Xeo Transmitter is, but that's not such a big deal.

The main strong point I see the Xeos as having is multi-room setups with a single transmitter.

Mind you, I think it's good that Dynaudio is trying to come up with a new type of product, but it's just not as revolutionary as they tried to hype it to be. But certainly in no way do I thinkt hat having the Xeo line as an option a bad thing.

Oh and by the way, I kinda guessed a day ahead it would be wireless speakers too. After all in the other forum dynlunatic said it's definitely a speaker... and in a Finnish forum one person told that a rep had said it's a new product line involving wireless technology... so the end result figures

What are the prices?

If they are high, then it's not really a non-audiophile product and the lack of 24/96/192 support if disappointing, and once again I will say, "meh!" And why not support 24/96 wirelessly? My Naim UnitQute does. In fact it's getting an upgrade to support 24/192 wirelessly.

I'm not saying the Xeo isn't a great product. I'm just not excited about for myself. If have no application for it.

Wonder how it will sound with my phono?

Ha, would that be one of the possible reasons of the end of the fine Dynaudio OCOS cables...so, I was not that wrong with my idea (which I wrote somewhere else here at this site) of a possible new alternative for that remarkable Swiss speaker cable Dynaudio always supported...

Active + Wireless + Bandwidth. The concept will eventually evolve & be proven technically in say 5 to 10 years. Moore's Law. Similarly, conventional methodologies will also move ahead but will gradually lose favor. It pains me to say longer term, lifestyle convergence will win outright as a result of mass consumerism.
