Listening to . . . . Arvo Part - Creator Spiritus
Theatre of Voices, Ars Nova Copenhagen - Paul Hillier, Conductor NYYD Quartet Christopher Bowers-Broadbent (organ) Hauntingly beautiful, gentle, mournful, peaceful. I'm not sure I fully understand nor fully appreciate all that Part is communicating through his music - this music is totally spiritual, totally ethereal, almost hypnotic, like music you would expect to encounter in heaven itself. Turn off the lights, sit, close your eyes, and become totally absorbed in this music. A wonderful, out of this world listening experience.

Chopin: Etudes Op. 10 & Op. 25, Maurizio Pollini on DG vinyl release from the early 70s. Performance is technically good of course, if a little overly brisk on some pieces. Sound is a bit thin and hard but listenable.

Bach: Orchestral Suites No. 1 in C and & No. 2 in B min, London Bach Ensemble on Philharmonic Records SPRL 1010, clear red vinyl. Not dated but early 60s. A very nice performance and sound. A trip down memory lane this morning, this came from my Dad's collection and I'm playing it on his AR XA which I just finished restoring.

Festival - Chicago Symphony Orchestra - Fritz Reiner, Conductor Rousing celebratory music, very well played by the Chicago and very good sounding through two speakers.

Here's one I highly recommend.
From the very first note, this recording is phenomenal - incredible sound quality, excellent performance. This one I love to listen to.
Listening to Brahms - Concerto No. 1 Artur Rubenstein - Piano Chicago Symphony Orchestra - Fritz Reiner, Conductor An RCA Living Stereo LP (naturally) Reissued by Classic Records First recorded in 1954, using a single unidirectional microphone - and the stereo sound is magnificent. This recording is available on SACD and I'll bet it is one of the really good ones.
