To bi-wire or not bi-wire
Gents....
Wanted your opinions on bi-wiring. I have a pair of B&W PM1's, and currently bi-wire from my McIntosh MC152. I heard from another that I would get better results using the supplied jumpers, and running just a single set of wires to the PM1s. Have not tried this yet, but wanted to hear any experiences and/or opinions that you guys may have. Cheers -Scott |

Have we done this already? I know that I have seen this request and the messy slew of responses over and over on other forums. There will be conflicting opinions and descriptions and, eventually, the wheels will come off.
Good luck. |

And I thought this was the "friendly" audiophile message board. Thanks for the condescending advise, jdandy. Just wanted a fresh perspective.

My speakers are such that one set of cables powers the woofers the other the midrange and tweeter and I triwire to the super tweeter. My thoughts is that I like to keep the load impediance somewhat isolated on the outside to the speaker system. This mimicks the crossover. I would say the best case would be to biamp or Triamp. But and for medicine with a McIntosh 601 power is not an issues nor is variable loads ranges to the amp. But even though the load to the amp at the amp is the same when biwired I feel that it is what is going on in the speaker wire that is where the difference is occurring.
I am sure if you reads the 100s of others thoughts they are all over the place. But the quick of it is like Ivan and others bi or tri wiring works better for me. Hope that gives you some technical aspects to ponder. Best to you. |

Some speakers do well bi-wired, my B&Ws I use to have did.

I've tried using the supplied plates, then went to some Acoustic Zen Satori cables with a bi-wire setup on my Aerial Acoustic Model 8 speakers.
I find the 10" woofers in their own 64L enclosure at the bottom of the 8's do much better with the bi-wire set up. YMMV because as stated some speakers seem to do well with the plates, some do better with a bi-wire setup. It seems to be a variable result dependent on oh so many factors that it would be hard to summarize a truly consistent approach that works for all. And of course, then there's the matter of what sounds best to YOU. My advice is to start experimenting!
